Billy's hometown of Doniphan, Missouri, recently honored the local hero with the unveiling of a sign that will greet all who travel into the city. The sign proudly proclaims Doniphan as the hometown of the International award winning singer/songwriter. The Fourth of July ceremony at Doniphan's River Front Park was also the place where the local Art Guild names Yates as an honorary member. The mayor, Terry Cooper, also presented Yates with a proclamation, naming the fourth Friday of each May as "Billy Yates Day".
